HTA School of Culinary Art Hosts Sizzling Success at Annual Boerewors Competition & Community Drive
HTA School of Culinary Art proudly held its much-anticipated Annual Boerewors Competition and Family Fun Day on Saturday, 21 June 2025. The event brought together culinary excellence, community spirit, and charitable giving — all in the name of flavour and fun.
This year’s event featured gourmet wors creations from HTA’s second-year students, judged by an esteemed panel of culinary professionals: Chef Beatrix Thornhill, Dave Collier, and Jürgen Küpper. After a tough cook-off and much deliberation, the title of Best Boerie Team was awarded to “My Big Fat Greek Wors”, whose Mediterranean-inspired take impressed judges with its creativity, execution, and bold flavours.
In true HTA spirit, the event also included a Food & Clothing Drive, supporting local communities in need during the winter season. Students and guests were encouraged to bring donations of non-perishable food, clothing, and essential items, which will be distributed to individuals and organisations throughout the area.
The family-friendly day also featured:
- Gourmet boerie rolls, chips & snacks
- Hot and cold beverages
- Music and outdoor seating
“We are incredibly proud of our students for their innovation and professionalism under pressure,” said Principal, Carien van Tonder.
The event was a resounding success, with all donations going toward HTA’s ongoing social responsibility efforts and enrichment programmes.
