Joburg’s next generation of culinary talent took center stage on Saturday, 5 September, when the HTA School of Culinary Art in Ferndale welcomed family and friends to its annual Gourmet Food Market. The lively event saw first-year students transform their culinary training into a vibrant food experience, serving an impressive variety of international flavours while showcasing their creativity, entrepreneurial skills and passion for the culinary industry.
HTA School of Culinary Art came alive with flavour, creativity and excitement on Saturday, 5 September, as first-year culinary students hosted the school’s annual TASTE HTA – Food Market.
The fun-filled event was attended by family and friends, who came together to support the aspiring chefs as they showcased their culinary skills, creativity and entrepreneurial flair.
Guests enjoyed a diverse selection of gourmet street food inspired by cuisines and flavours from around the world. The various student food concepts represented themes including South American, Korean, Mexican, Southern USA, North African & Middle Eastern, Southern African, Asian and Mediterranean cuisine, as well as an irresistible Dessert and Sweet category.
The relaxed market atmosphere featured family-style seating, music and a bar, creating a festive and enjoyable afternoon for guests of all ages.
Adding to the excitement, the students’ food concepts and creations were judged by industry professionals, giving the aspiring chefs the opportunity to showcase their talents and receive valuable feedback from members of the culinary industry.
The annual Gourmet Food Market provided an opportunity for HTA’s first-year students to put their training into practice while giving their families and friends a taste of the creativity and talent that represents the next generation of South African and World chefs.
The event once again demonstrated that the future of the culinary industry is in good hands.
